I'm a Swedish concept artist/illustrator.
I've previously worked on everything from the design of games, illustrations for film to book covers, album covers, clothing design and more. Starting 2015 I will be shifting gears to focus more on making my own projects, building a solid portfolio and studying art to progress my career.

If you have a project that you think I'd be interested working on, you can still send me an email to commission me for freelance work. I'll just be doing a bit less of it than before. My contact info is below.

Alright, so I'm making a video tutorial!

Demon ad by TristanBerndtArt

It's going to cover my approach to making a high polish character design that can be used both as a design for a movie, game and all of that stuff but also making it look good enough that it can be used to pitch the idea of the game/movie/whatever.

I'm in the middle of the recoding part. I've got 2.5 hours recorded so far (it's going to be sped up in the final) and I wanted to know what people want me to talk about or show. Right now I'm not entirely sure what I'll be talking about. I have an idea but feel free to suggest something you want me to cover.

Things I plan to talk about.
Color
Value
Forms
Style
Use of layers and blending modes
Brushes
When to limit your process
How I lean stuff
Good habits for students
How I design
Detail
Presentation

So please feel free to comment any questions or ideas. You can also message me them if you want. If I already listed something you wanted me to talk about, maybe suggest it anyway so I know more specifically what you'd like to know. I'll do my best to get to all of it.

The tutorial is going to be free. I'm not some big shot just yet so I'd feel crappy charging you guys for this kind of video. I'll upload it to youtube or something so everyone can watch it. It's going to be in HD and I'll hopefully get a good mic so you can better hear my dumb voice.

So studying art isn't super easy but there are a few things you can do to make it easier. I've taken a bunch of online courses, gotten several workshops, read a bunch of books, done a ton of life drawing, read a lot of art blogs and I think sharing some of my resources could be helpful for some of you. I have about 1K followers so there's probably at least a few of you that could benefit from this. I don't want to sound like some big-shot when talking about this, I still use these resources and learn from them daily. They should be helpful for both beginners and pros.

So taking courses online is sometimes a risky thing. There are a bunch of crappy online schools, teaching bad stuff and just ripping artists off. That being said. There are a few great ones. These are a few of my favourites offering a good art education that's much much cheaper than most art schools and ateliers.

Workshops are also a good investment. Kinda like mini courses.

Check out the Gumroad stuff that individual artists share. There are several artists doing it and they're dirt cheap.

While full courses and workshops are great, you might want to still learn more. I find books to be a great resource so here are some authors you should really check out.

George B Bridgman
John H. Vanderpoel
Andrew Loomis
Burne Hogarth
Richard Schmid
James Gurney
Glenn Vilppu

For some late night reading before going to bed. Art blogs are great. They're not always top notch but sometimes you find something really great and inspirational. Remember to check out of any of your favourite artists have one. Here are a few general blogs I really like.

conceptartworld.com/

And lastly a resource for any professionals out there.

I hope any of this helps.

PS. talk to your fellow artists. People are often willing to help out, give critiques, explain stuff and share their resources (like I'm doing). Some people (like me) can get kinda lazy when replying to messages (however I eventually get to them with a long and ranting message) so just don't be offended if they don't instantly reply.

Hello Tristan! Thank you so much for the constructive criticism on my piece in the forums. I updated it a little since then (mostly in parts of her body.)

I will be checking out the resources you linked me to. I really appreciate the crit, and I will be going back to some basic fundamentals in my free time. I would also like to say your art is spectacular! I really appreciate advice from skilled artists such as yourself.

Stay classy!

Is the study group still going on? I think that I have improved a lot and was considering reapplying.

Hey, yeah. I can pass it along to the others.
Also, we're working out a few things so everyone can partake in some events, challenges and whatnot. Kinda want to build the group out and see what can be done with it. Could be something to look forward to.
